This oil painting was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice (2005), reimagining one of its most iconic landscapes through a more expressive lens. Rather than focusing on narrative detail, I was drawn to the atmosphere—the quiet tension, longing, and emotional weight carried in the open countryside.
The sweeping sky dominates the composition, built with loose, gestural brushstrokes and layered cool tones that suggest movement and unrest. In contrast, the land is simplified and grounded, allowing the sky to hold the emotional focus.
This piece marks the beginning of my exploration into a more expressive style. I intentionally let go of precision, allowing texture, abstraction, and mark-making to guide the image. The result is less about a specific moment from the film and more about capturing what it feels like.
No creature is immune to the effects of jealousy. Such emotions can creep up. No matter the confidence. No matter the self assuredness.
Although the fey hold themselves to a higher standard than most, they still fall prey to the seeping green.

The relationship between the hunter and the hunted is a delicate one. It is an example of dependency. Life is chance for some. Mother nature dictates us all.

Just as the flowers bloom upwards from the soil, so do the layers of colour for this fey. Engulfed in deep blue, the shawl stretches thin at the wrists to reveal pinks and lavender.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, this portrait of Jane captures the calm grace that first drew me to her character. Executed in oil with looser, more expressive brushwork than my earlier pieces, the painting balances delicate realism with moments of painterly freedom—soft edges, layered glazes, and subtle textural gestures that echo Jane’s gentle demeanor. The palette favors warm neutrals and muted pastels, reflecting her quiet kindness, while the composition places emphasis on a serene gaze and relaxed posture, inviting the viewer into a moment of composed introspection. Part of a small collection inspired by the film, this work explores how cinematic nuance can be translated into the tactile language of paint, celebrating both the character’s elegance and the liberating shift in my own artistic practice.
Limiting oneself tests the imagination of possibilities. In this series, materials were limited to; one dry medium, one colour wet medium, and one metallic medium. Each piece is related only by the materials used, and the fantastical nature of the elf species. This collection was a challenge to create individuals within confined parameters. The elves serve as creative muses that fuel the artist to create from imagination. They represent childhood wonder and the mysterious world of fantasy.
