This oil painting was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice (2005), reimagining one of its most iconic landscapes through a more expressive lens. Rather than focusing on narrative detail, I was drawn to the atmosphere—the quiet tension, longing, and emotional weight carried in the open countryside.

The sweeping sky dominates the composition, built with loose, gestural brushstrokes and layered cool tones that suggest movement and unrest. In contrast, the land is simplified and grounded, allowing the sky to hold the emotional focus.

This piece marks the beginning of my exploration into a more expressive style. I intentionally let go of precision, allowing texture, abstraction, and mark-making to guide the image. The result is less about a specific moment from the film and more about capturing what it feels like.
